Rice Depot In Abuja
Rice Depot In Abuja (RiceDepot.ng) is a wholesale distributor / supplier of quality foreign and local rice in Abuja.
Rice consumption in Abuja / F.C.T is very great. The city has a population of more than 5 million residents. There is hardly a family in Gwagwalada, Lugbe, Kubwa, Garki, Maitama and everywhere in Abuja Nigeria that does not eat rice at least twice a week.
Approximately 17 million tons of rice was imported in the five years preceding the current administration and about $5 million were spent daily on the importation of rice.
The government thus made a very good move when the importation of foreign rice was banned.
Agriculture was a thriving sector that contributed so much to the economy but with the discovery of oil it was relegated to the background and the country relied heavily on importation wasting money and resources that should have being channeled towards the development of the country.
There is enough arable land for the country to make something tangible out of but the case remains that most farmers are still on the subsistence level because they do not have enough support from the government.
They should be provided with grants, aids, loans with very low interest rate, equipment and machinery and should be introduced to mechanized farming all in a bid to ensure that they engage in farming not just at a subsistence level but at a commercial level so that food particularly rice will be readily available and also be cheaper than it already is.
This would also contribute to the much sought after economic growth and money will not be spent on unnecessary importation anymore.
